Summary

As Plaintiff lawyers, we all deal with immense pressures.  Especially the stress and anxiety of Litigation and trials.  This pressure is compounded when you suffer a serious physical or mental injury or illness or lose a loved one.  This can lead to substance abuse, further mental illness, or other mental or physical issues that may impair your ability to perform your legal duties with competence.  This webinar intends to discuss and educate viewers/listeners on how to detect these competence issues.  The panel consists of former CAALA President Doug Silverstein and Debra S. Borys, PhD, FABPS. Some of the subtopics will include:

Acknowledging illness/loss/grief re capabilities (whether temporary or permanent);
Finding islands of control and hope;
Changes in roles (eg needing to ask, receive help) with spouse/colleagues/others;
Shame and guilt;
The tendency to overdo it on good days or return to work too quickly; and
Risks for irritability, self-medication.
Competence Issues MCLE credit will be issued.
